Land Cruiser 70 Pickup (GRJ79K) Auction Prices in Japan

A 2014–15 Toyota Land Cruiser 70 single-cab pickup (GRJ79K) hammered between ¥3.40 million and ¥7.13 million at Japanese auctions over the past 12 weeks, with a median of ¥5.03 million. Mileage and auction score explain almost all of that spread.

The GRJ79K is the pickup from the 2014–15 Japanese re-release of the Land Cruiser 70: a 4.0-litre petrol V6 with a five-speed manual gearbox. It was only sold in Japan for about a year, so supply is thin and every car is between 11 and 12 years old. Buyers in Africa, the Middle East and the Pacific want it for the same reason: it is the 70 Series, with Japanese service history. Here is what it costs, from 16 GRJ79K pickups sold in the 12 weekly sales to 15 October 2026.

Chart: GRJ79K pickup hammer prices by mileage — over 100,000 km ¥3.40–3.59M; 40,000–100,000 km ¥3.91–4.54M; under 40,000 km ¥5.00–5.72M; about 1,000 km ¥7.13M

GRJ79K hammer prices by mileage and score#

MileageAuction scoreHammer price
Over 100,000 km3.5¥3,400,000 – ¥3,590,000
40,000 – 100,000 km3.5 – 4¥3,905,000 – ¥4,540,000
Under 40,000 km4 – 5¥4,995,000 – ¥5,720,000
About 1,000 km4.5¥7,125,000

Two results from a single sale day in October show the range clearly: a 2015 white pickup with 20,000 km and score 4.5 sold for ¥5.03 million, and a 2015 beige pickup with 250,000 km and score 3.5 sold for ¥3.40 million.

Mileage is the price#

There is no cheap GRJ79K. A high-mileage, score-3.5 truck still costs about ¥3.4 million, because the 70 Series holds its value in every market that buys it. What you are choosing is how much of the truck's life you want to pay for.

The step from over 100,000 km to the 40,000–100,000 km band is worth about ¥0.5–1.0 million. The step to under 40,000 km is another ¥1 million. A truck with almost no mileage is a collector's car: the one example at about 1,000 km sold for ¥7.13 million, and a similar car was offered in mid-October with an expected price of ¥6.8–7.5 million.

Pickup or van?#

The same generation was also sold as a four-door van, the GRJ76K. Vans are more common at auction (44 sold in the same 12 weeks against 16 pickups) and cheaper.

Chart: GRJ79K pickup vs GRJ76K van, 2014–15 — pickup range ¥3.40–7.13M with median ¥5.03M; van range ¥0.995–5.37M with median ¥4.41M

BodySold in 12 weeksRangeMedian
GRJ79K pickup16¥3,400,000 – ¥7,125,000¥5,030,000
GRJ76K van44¥995,000 – ¥5,365,000¥4,410,000

The van's low end includes accident-damaged cars. A clean van with score 4.5 and under 60,000 km runs about ¥4.5–5.4 million; a score 3.5–4 van with over 100,000 km about ¥3.1–3.9 million. If your market cares about load space rather than the pickup bed, the van gives you more choice for slightly less money.

Check your country's age rule first#

Every GRJ79K is now over ten years old. Several African and Middle Eastern markets cap the age of imported used vehicles, and some measure it at the date customs clearance completes, not the date of shipment. Check the rule before you set a budget; a car that is cheap but cannot be registered is not cheap. Our Land Cruiser buyer's guide covers the wider family.

From hammer price to FOB#

For a ¥5,030,000 truck:

ItemAmount
Hammer price¥5,030,000
Auction fee¥22,000
10% consumption tax¥505,200
Our service fee (hammer price ¥5M–8M)¥130,000
Inland transport to the portabout ¥30,000
FOBabout ¥5,717,000

That is roughly $37,000 at ¥154 to the dollar. Ocean freight and destination charges come on top. A running pickup can travel on a RoRo vessel; a container gives more protection. The fee table is on our pricing page.

What to look at on the auction sheet#

On a 12-year-old work truck the auction score tells you less than the inspector's notes. Look for rust marks on the frame and bed, aftermarket parts (bumpers, wheels and exhausts are common), and whether the original parts come with the car. A truck that has been fitted with an aftermarket bumper or wheels is not necessarily a problem, but it should be priced as such.

Frequently asked questions#

Is the GRJ79K diesel? No. The Japanese 2014–15 re-release used the 1GR-FE 4.0-litre petrol V6 with a five-speed manual. Diesel 70 Series pickups were not sold new in Japan in that period.

How many GRJ79Ks come up each week? One or two on a typical week across the auctions we cover. If you want a specific colour and mileage, plan for several weeks.

Can you send photos before I decide? Yes. We send the auction sheet and the auction photos of every candidate before you approve a bid.

Is the 30th Anniversary edition worth more? It is a trim package from the same re-release. At these volumes there are too few results to put a reliable premium on it.
