Used Toyota Rush for Export from Japan

The Rush (J200, 2006–2016, twin of the Daihatsu Bego) is a compact ladder-frame SUV with a proper low-range-free RWD/4WD layout and a 1.5L engine — real ground clearance in a small, cheap, fixable package. Zimbabwe, Zambia and Kenya buy it as the affordable rural runabout that survives roads a Vitz cannot. Supply is finite since production ended, and clean 4WD units firm up every year.

Typical FOB range: $5,000–$10,000

Key facts

  • RWD or part-time 4WD; 1.5L 3SZ-VE; 5MT or 4AT
  • Best for: rural roads, budget SUV buyers, small-engine duty brackets
  • Daihatsu Bego and Terios are the same vehicle — cross-shop all three

What to check at auction

Check 4WD engagement and front hub condition. Timing chain rattle on high-mileage 3SZ-VE. Rear-mounted spare and tailgate hinge wear. These were often rural cars in Japan too — inspect underbody rust closely.
