Used Subaru Impreza for Export from Japan
The Impreza sells on one word: AWD. It is the cheapest way into Subaru's symmetrical all-wheel-drive — standard on virtually every JDM unit — which makes it the winter-country and bad-road compact of choice for Russia, New Zealand and Ireland. The G4 sedan and Sport hatch (2011–) are the volume generations; WRX-badged performance models are a separate, hotter trade.
Key facts
- Symmetrical AWD; 1.6L or 2.0L boxer (FB16/FB20); CVT
- Best for: winter/bad-road markets, Russia-compliant 1.6L units, AWD on a budget
- 1.6i-L stays under 1,900cc import thresholds — the Russia-trade spec
What to check at auction
FB boxers consume some oil — normal, but verify it's documented as within spec. CVT (Lineartronic) service history. Check front subframe and rear arches on snow-prefecture cars for salt rust. Unmodified cars only unless trading performance models deliberately.
