Used Suzuki Jimny for Export from Japan
The Jimny is the only kei-sized vehicle with a ladder frame, low-range transfer case and solid axles — a real off-roader that fits in a parking bay. The JB64/JB74 (2018–) created worldwide waiting lists, making lightly-used Japanese units an arbitrage play; the JB23 (1998–2018) is two decades of affordable supply. Ireland, New Zealand, the GCC and safari operators everywhere want it.
Key facts
- Part-time 4WD with low range; 660cc turbo (JB23/64) or 1.5L Sierra (JB43/74)
- Best for: off-road buyers, safari/lodge fleets, collector-grade arbitrage
- Sierra (1.5L) versions travel best where kei displacement has no tax advantage
What to check at auction
Off-road abuse hides underneath: check frame, diff housings and steering knuckles for impact marks. Kingpin bearing wear (death wobble notes). Lifted/modified units discount on resale unless tastefully done — original-height cars are the safer trade.
